Batteries and charging, simplified

Most boat electrical headaches come down to batteries that aren't charged properly. Here's how to set up a system that's ready every time you are.

01

AGM or lithium?

AGM deep-cycle batteries are affordable and tough. Lithium (LiFePO4) batteries cost more up front but weigh far less and deliver more usable capacity, which matters for trolling motors.

02

One charger bank per battery

An on-board charger with one bank per battery charges everything at once from a single shore-power plug. Count your starting, house and trolling batteries before you choose.

03

Add a battery switch

A battery switch lets you isolate batteries when the boat is stored and choose which battery runs the engine, so a drained house battery never leaves you stranded.
